Fiat Airbag Module No Communication Repair

VAG Group vehicles (VW|Audi|Skoda|Seat) have a common issue which causes a loss of communication with the airbag control module.

Symptoms of this issue can be:

Illuminated Airbag light on the instrument cluster and no communication when trying to communicate with the airbag module when using a scan tool. Other modules on the vehicle may store codes with descriptions such as Fuel cut off error, airbag fault error, lost communication with the airbag control module.

If you are experiencing these issues there are a few possible explanations. If you are unsure if your loss of communication is due to a bad module or another issue then here are a few steps you can take to narrow it down. Alternatively you can post the module to us and we can diagnose if the module is at fault or not for you, this service can be found on our website shop for a small fee.

First we advise you scan the vehicle to see if the airbag module is the only module that is not communicating. If it is not alone then its likely you have a car issue.

Secondly once no communication with the airbag module is confirmed then you would have to test the wiring to the module to rule out any wiring issues. Here is the wiring for this module that you need to check for:

• Pin 61 - +12v
• Pin 63 - Ground
• Pin 89 - Can High
• Pin 90 - Can Low

If you have the desired outcome from each wire tested then you can dismiss the wiring as an issue and we can confirm that the module is at fault.

Q. Can you physically take out the dpf

A. Yes, once its been deleted. You can take it away to get removed or we can do it for you for an extra cost. There is no obligation to get it done by ourselves.

Q. Can a DTC removal break my car?

A. No however the answer to this depends what your removing and if its for the correct reasons. Sometimes we have codes that are there with no faults, in this case it is ok. However if you would like to delete an engine management code for example and the vehicles dpf is blocked up causing back pressure then yes clearing the code may take the light off but wont fix your vehicle. In this case your vehicle could brake down, however its not removing the DTC that caused it - its turining a blind eye to a problem.
