Description
Description
VAG Group vehicles (VW|Audi|Skoda|Seat) have a common issue which causes a loss of communication with the airbag control module.
Symptoms of this issue can be:
Illuminated Airbag light on the instrument cluster and no communication when trying to communicate with the airbag module when using a scan tool. Other modules on the vehicle may store codes with descriptions such as Fuel cut off error, airbag fault error, lost communication with the airbag control module.
If you are experiencing these issues there are a few possible explanations. If you are unsure if your loss of communication is due to a bad module or another issue then here are a few steps you can take to narrow it down. Alternatively you can post the module to us and we can diagnose if the module is at fault or not for you, this service can be found on our website shop for a small fee.
First we advise you scan the vehicle to see if the airbag module is the only module that is not communicating. If it is not alone then its likely you have a car issue.
Secondly once no communication with the airbag module is confirmed then you would have to test the wiring to the module to rule out any wiring issues. Here is the wiring for this module that you need to check for:
- Pin 61 - +12v
- Pin 63 - Ground
- Pin 89 - Can High
- Pin 90 - Can Low
If you have the desired outcome from each wire tested then you can dismiss the wiring as an issue and we can confirm that the module is at fault.

FAQ'S
FAQ'S
Q. I don't know if my module is bad, can you tell me?
A. We advise that at a minimum you have the car scanned to determine if you have communication with the airbag module or not. Once you have confirmed you have no communication then yes we can diagnose your module using our testing platform. If we find your module to be communicating and working ok, we will inform you that you have a vehicle issue and therefore would require the vehicle to be looked at by a garage / auto-electrician local to yourself. We have a listing on our website for this service which is £26.90.
If we determine your module to be at fault, the repair would be a cost of £90 as per this advert, we would deduct the already paid £26.90 from the £90 total leaving £63.10.
Q. Does this repair have warranty?
A. Yes, all of our VAG airbag module no communication repair services come with a 12 months warranty.
Q. Will i need to re-code the module once you have repaired the unit?
A. No, once we have repaired your module you can re-install it to your vehicle and communication will be re-gained with no additional coding required.
Q. What happens if you can not repair my module?
A. Its not very often we can not repair one of these modules however we can offer a few options:
- we can return your module and issue a full refund
- We can offer a cloning service to transfer your data off your broken, non-repairable module onto a second hand unit. This cloning service ensures no coding or programming required once you receive your replacement unit back. With this option we are happy if you supply your own second hand unit or if you would like us to source one for you.
If no repair is possible we can explain more regarding these options if you have any questions.
